All too often manufacturers give their mobile phones an impressive sounding name that the hardware has no chance of living up to, but for once there is a phone with a name that seems to be a perfect fit – the HTC Titan. With a massive 4.7 inch screen the Titan is an absolute behemoth of a phone which dwarfs all other Windows Phone 7 handsets.
While the launch of Windows Phone 7 saw the release of a number of great handsets since then there haven’t been too many new WP7 devices on the market and even fewer have done anything to stand out from the crowd. In the last few weeks however the future of Windows Phone 7 has begun to look a lot brighter, the release of Windows Phone 7.5 was well received and handsets such as the Nokia Lumia 800 and Samsung Omnia W have got people interested in WP7 once again.
The HTC Titan is running the latest version of WP7 straight out of the box and gives you a healthy 16GB of storage space for all your music, pictures and video. Visually the Titan is quite a conservative handset, all black with subtle curves. It isn’t a flashy phone but it still manages to look attractive. Despite the huge screen the phone still manages to be quite thin and fits into a pocket comfortably.
The 4.7″ SLCD is a good quality screen with great looking colours and good contrast, the only disappointment is the WVGA resolution, while this is on par with other Windows Phone 7 devices the huge screen could definitely have benefited from a few more pixels. Like most new high-end smartphones the Titan has an 8-megapixel camera with a dual-LED flash which can capture 720P video.
While Windows Phone 7 doesn’t yet support dual-core processors the 1.5Ghz single core CPU found in the Titan is more than quick enough resulting in a very smooth experience. You may think a phone with such a large screen and speedy processor would absolutely drain a battery in a day but even with moderately high usage a full charge will easily last you over a day.
While such a large phone certainly isn’t for everyone those after a big screen, a decent camera and good battery life should be more than satisfied with the HTC Titan. You can grab a Titan for free with a £31 a month contract at Carphone Warehouse right now.
